The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that the field of Documentary Short Subject contenders for the 89th Academy Awards has been narrowed to 10 films, of which 5 will earn Oscar nominations.

Voters from the Academy’s Documentary Branch viewed this year’s 61 eligible entries and submitted their ballots to PricewaterhouseCoopers for tabulation.

The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production companies:

Annie Chang, vice president of technology for Marvel Studios, has accepted an invitation to join the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, bringing the Council’s 2016–2017 membership roster to 25.

Scripts to be performed at live read in November

Casting director and producer David Rubin will produce the 8th Annual Governors Awards for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced today. 

Honorary Awards will be presented to actor Jackie Chan, film editor Anne V. Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster and documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman on Saturday, November 12, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center^®.

The Academy celebrates the 45th anniversary of the 1971 Best Picture winner, “The French Connection,” on Friday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Immediately after the screening, Oscar^®-winning screenwriter Chris McQuarrie will host an onstage conversation with the film’s Oscar-winning director, William Friedkin.
