SUBMISSION DEADLINES FOR 2018 OSCARS® APPROACHING

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today published its list of upcoming submission deadlines for 91st Academy Awards consideration.

Submissions for individual categories and the General Entry/Oscars Submission Form (OSF) are due by 5 p.m. PT on the following dates:

Monday, October 1
Animated Feature Film
Documentary Feature
Documentary Short Subject
Foreign Language Film
Animated Short Film
Live Action Short Film

Thursday, November 15
General Entry categories (including Best Picture)
Original Score
Original Song

ACADEMY REVEALS 2018 STUDENT ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS

The Academy has voted 19 students as winners of the 45th Student Academy Awards® competition.  This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received a total of 1,582 entries from 278 domestic and 122 international colleges and universities, which were voted upon by a record number of Academy members.  The 2018 winners join the ranks of such past Student Academy Award winners as Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Cary Fukunaga, John Lasseter, Spike Lee, Trey Parker, Patricia Riggen and Robert Zemeckis.

KEY DATES FOR THE 92ND OSCARS ANNOUNCED

While remaining committed to celebrating a wide spectrum of movies, the Academy announced today that it will not present the new Oscars category at the upcoming 91st awards. The Academy recognized that implementing any new award nine months into the year creates challenges for films that have already been released.  The Board of Governors continues to be actively engaged in discussions, and will examine and seek additional input regarding this category. 

THE ACADEMY TO HONOR KATHLEEN KENNEDY, MARVIN LEVY, FRANK MARSHALL, LALO SCHIFRIN AND CICELY TYSON AT 2018 GOVERNORS AWARDS

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted Tuesday night (September 4) to present Honorary Awards to publicist Marvin Levy, composer Lalo Schifrin and actress Cicely Tyson, and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.  The three Oscar® statuettes and Thalberg Award will be presented at the Academy’s 10th Annual Governors Awards on Sunday, November 18, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center®.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that eight distinct scientific and technical investigations have been launched for the 2018 Oscars.

These investigations are made public so individuals and companies with devices or claims of innovation within these areas will have the opportunity to submit achievements for review.

The deadline to submit additional entries is Wednesday, July 18, at 5 p.m. PT. The Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards Committee has started investigations into the following areas:

ACADEMY INVITES 928 TO MEMBERSHIP

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 928 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2018.


Ten individuals (noted by an asterisk) have been invited to join the Academy by multiple branches. These individuals must select one branch upon accepting membership.
