Academy Family Day

The Academy invited families with children ages 8-17 to attend a “Heroes and Sheroes” Costume Design Workshop followed by a screening of Black Panther. During the workshop, the children had the opportunity to draw, design and create their own superhero costumes using fabric and other materials.  Original costumes from Black Panther were on display.

After a short break, families were invited into our Linwood Dunn Theater for a presentation about costume design in Black Panther with Ruth Carter, whose work was honored with an Oscar for Best Achievement in Costume Design last year for her work on the film.

With a new appreciation and understanding of the art of costume design, we ended the day with a screening of Black Panther

12:30pm  “Heroes and Sheroes” Costume Design Workshop (drop-in anytime)

2:30pm  Presentation in the Linwood Dunn Theater with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth Carter and 3D designer Julia Koerner.

3:00pm Screening of Black Panther (134 min)

Recommended for families with children ages 8-17. Black Panther (2018) is rated PG-13.  Some material may not be appropriate for children under 13.
