Directors Alfonso Cuarón and J.J. Abrams, actor Chris Pine and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards® today (January 15).  For the first time, nominees in all 24 categories were announced live.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 21 scientific and technical achievements represented by 58 individual award recipients will be honored at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation on Saturday, February 7, at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.

Nominations voting for the 87th Oscars will close on Thursday, January 8, at 5 p.m. PT.      

The votes will be tabulated and verified by the international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

The 87th Oscars Nominations Announcement will be held on Thursday, January 15, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences begins 2015 with two new screening series, Street Clothes: Contemporary Costuming in New Hollywood and Two Sides of a Costume Designer, in conjunction with the landmark Hollywood Costume exhibition now on view.

Nine features will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 87th Academy Awards®.  Eighty-three films had originally been considered in the category.

Winning Filmmakers to Appear on Oscars^® Telecast

Channing Tatum, Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, and the Academy today launched “Team Oscar” by inviting the next generation of filmmakers to create a short video and vie for the opportunity to appear onstage during the live Oscar broadcast.  Winners will deliver Oscar statuettes to celebrity presenters at the 87th Academy Awards® on Oscar Sunday, February 22, 2015, live on ABC.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films remain in competition in the Makeup and Hairstyling category for the 87th Academy Awards.
