Scripts to be presented at virtual table read in December

Five individuals have been selected as winners of the 2020 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition.  The fellows will each receive a $35,000 prize and be highlighted at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Awards and Virtual Table Read on Thursday, December 3, where an ensemble of actors will read selected scenes from the winning scripts.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has voted 18 students as winners of the 47th Student Academy Awards® competition.  This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received a total of 1,474 entries from 207 domestic and 121 international colleges and universities.  The 2020 winners join the ranks of such past Student Academy Award winners as Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Cary Fukunag

Today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced new representation and inclusion standards for Oscars® eligibility in the Best Picture category, as part of its Academy Aperture 2025 initiative. The standards are designed to encourage equitable representation on and off screen in order to better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience.

ACADEMY BOARD OF GOVERNORS 2020-2021 OFFICERS ELECTED


Casting director David Rubin was re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today by the organization’s Board of Governors.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors voted to reclassify the membership status of Artists’ Representatives (agents) from Associates to Members-at-Large.  As Members-at-Large, agents will now have voting privileges.

The Academy is comprised of 17 branches, for the crafts ranging from Actors to Writers, and two membership status categories, Members-at-Large and Associates, to accommodate individuals whose work in the motion picture industry is not specific to one of the branches.
