Filmmaker William Wyler received three Academy Awards® out of twelve nominations in the Director category during his lengthy career as a filmmaker and include, “Ben-Hur” (1959), “Roman Holiday” (1953), and “The Best Years of Our Lives” (1946). Included in the collection is his most critically acclaimed film, “Dodsworth” (1936) which the Archive preserved in 2019. In 1995, Wyler’s daughter, Catherine Wyler, donated the Wyler Family Home Movie Collection and the Catherine Wyler Collection to the Archive. Together, the two collections comprise the William Wyler Collection, which contain over 300 items and is primarily made up of home movie footage, complete prints, interviews, and various production elements that were used in the documentary portrait, “Directed by William Wyler” (1986).
