Based on the 1973 novel by William Goldman, "The Princess Bride" is a classic tale of love and adventure as read by a kindly grandfather to his ill grandson. Featuring swordplay, an evil prince, a giant and a beautiful princess, the film was directed by Rob Reiner and showcases an ensemble cast including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Carol Kane and Billy Crystal as Miracle Max. Rock and roll writer and performer Willy DeVille composed the Academy Award-nominated theme song, "Storybook Love."
The Academy premiered a new print of "The Princess Bride" from the Academy Film Archive, created as part of the recently announced Film-to-Film initiative, a project that accelerates the work of the Archive to acquire and create new film masters and prints from at-risk elements. Screened courtesy of 20th Century Fox. Act III Communications. 35mm. 101 minutes.
