The Academy held aan evening dissecting the history of the Hollywood Blacklist, from the perspective of someone who lived through it.  Following the screening of his 1976 The Front, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Original Screenplay, screenwriter Walter Bernstein sat with Michael Barker (co-president and co-founder of Sony Pictures Classics) to discuss the lasting legacy of Hollywoods Darkest moment and reflect on his own experienes during that time.

About the film:

Directed and produced by Martin Ritt, The Front tells the story of blacklisted writer Afred Miller (Michael Murphy), who enlists his bookie friend Howard Prince (Woody Allen) to serve as a front for his scripts for a television series starring Hecky Brown (Zero Mostel) and produced by Phil Sussman (Hershal Bernardi). As Howard becomes famous and falls for scrpt editor Florence Barrett (Andrea Marcovicci), he finds his life complicated by the cutthroat politics of the 1950s.
