4th Annual Global Movie Day Campaign

The fourth annual Global Movie Day was held on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Set in the heart of the historic 95th Oscars season, this year's campaign focused on showcasing the power and celebrating the global impact movies have on people around the world, while encouraging audiences to see the 95th Oscar Nominated films ahead of the 95th Academy Awards.

The campaign was executed:

Leading up to the holiday, the Academy identified & collaborated with content creators, entertainment partners, Academy Members and filmmakers to capture & create content that showcased their love and memory of movies.

Filmed Academy Members & filmmakers sharing vivid movie memories from “What was the first movie that made them feel seen?” to “What’s their favorite movie from another country?” that showcased the impact of cinema within their lives.

Collobrated with AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark Theatres to announce their 95th Oscars Best Picture Screenings to encourage movie lovers to see the nominated films on the silver screen and to support the movie theatre industry.

Collaborated with entertainment studios to highlight their movies from past, present and upcoming - while promoting their Oscar-nominated films.

Created customizable PSD Social Toolkit assets for Disney International & Oscars licencees for them to localize the assets in their country/audiences native language in efforts to resonate further.

Partnered with content creators to film how they are celebrating Global Movie Day to encourage & attract their niche audiences to join in the conversation using #GlobalMovieDay for a chance to win a Global Movie Day Lovers Prize Pack OR a grand prize trip to the 2024 Oscar Night at the Academy Museum.

Established the Academy’s first in person Global Movie Day Celebration at the Academy Museum in efforts to expand the holiday past social media while celebrating the 95th Oscar Nominated Films. Additional content creators were invited to celebrate and promote Global Movie Day in effort to increase awareness of the Academy Museum. Additionally, attendees of the event were invited to share "Which Best Picture Nominee Are You Rooting For?" for a chance to be featured in a Digital Oscars Promo released on Oscars Sunday.

Established an Academy Museum Store Promotion where Museum visitors received 15% off in store throughout the weekend and movie lovers around the world also received 15% off online using the GLOBALMOVIEDAY promotion code at checkout.

Which resulted in:

Movie lovers around the world posted content across social media and engaged with content throughout Global Movie Day - using #GlobalMovieDay within 24 hours, which resulted in:

Thousands of posts mentioning Global Movie Day, which garnered nearly 400M organic impressions. Sentiment was 96% positive solidifying that movie lovers around the world enjoy the holiday!

Content on our Academy owned channels garnered nearly 5.3M impressions, 4M video views, 575K engagements and 10.9% engagement rate (3.5X the industry average).

AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark Theatres announced their 95th Oscars Best Picture Screenings to encourage movie lovers to see the nominated films on the day or leading up to Oscar Sunday.

30+ Entertainment Studios & Partners posted throughout the day highlighting movies from past, present and upcoming - while promoting their Oscar-nominated films!

Activation Celebration: The first in-person Global Movie Day Celebration was held at the Academy Museum which expanded the holiday past social media. Movie lovers celebrated the holiday and the 95th Oscar season. Oscars Prediction Ballots were provided to every attendee to encourage them to see the nominated movies and tune-in to the 95th Oscars.

Academy Museum Store: The 15% off in-store and online weekend long promotion garnered thousands in revenue while expanding the store's product reach worldwide.

Oscars Ratings: Were up 12% YoY = Global Movie Day was a key beat in the overall 95th Oscars Digital Strategy Campaign and helped attribute to the increase in ratings.

 

Premise:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences established Global Movie Day, a day for film fans around the world to celebrate their favorite movies and engage with Academy members and filmmakers across social media. The inaugural holiday was held the day before the 92nd Oscars (2020). Global Movie Day is held on the second Saturday of February every year, to celebrate the power movies have to reach, connect and inspire people around the world.
