“Carriage Trade” (1971)

Warren Sonbert was an experimental filmmaker, known for his “diary films” and complex montages. In conjunction with Jon Gartenberg and the Estate Project for Artists with AIDS, the Archive preserved 19 of Sonbert’s films—with the exception of “Connection” (1967) “Holiday” (1968), and “Ted and Jessica” (1967) which are believed to be lost—from the best surviving elements in the filmmaker's collection, as well as materials from Anthology Film Archives, the Pacific Film Archive, and the British Film Institute. The Warren Sonbert Collection arrived at the Archive in 1997, a year which marked the beginning of a two-year long effort to preserve his filmography.
