AFA Collection - Roy Export Chaplin Collection

Acquired by the Academy in 2012, the Roy Export Chaplin Collection, comprised of over 150 items, consists mainly of pre-print safety elements for the majority of the films of Charlie Chaplin. In the 1960s, Chaplin composed new soundtracks for many of these films and edited their main and end titles. Sadly, the original nitrate materials were destroyed. Some of the titles held in the collection are: “City Lights” (1931), “The Circus” (1928), “Modern Times” (1936), “The Gold Rush” (1925), “Monsieur Verdoux” (1947), “The Great Dictator” (1940), “A King in New York” (1957), and many of Chaplin’s earlier works.
