Rick Baker’s prolific over forty-year career in special effects has garnered him seven Academy Awards® and eleven nominations. Baker was the first to win the category of “Makeup” when it first premiered at the Academy Awards®, in 1982 for the film “An American Werewolf in London” (1981). His portfolio includes makeup effects for titles like “Harry and the Hendersons” (1987), “The Nutty Professor” (1996), and “Men in Black” (1997). Baker donated his personal collection of over 300 videotapes to the Archive in 2014. The collection consists primarily of test footage from films which Baker either won or was nominated for the Makeup category. Other materials in the collection include entertainment news television clips and interviews with Baker, as well as footage of him at work in his special effects shop, Cinovation Studios.
