Phil Blankenship

Phil Blankenship, a Los Angeles-based film collector, programmer, and self-described “Midnight Maniac,” began depositing 35mm prints with the Academy Film Archive in 2009. The Phil Blankenship Collection continues to grow in size, with nearly 200 titles in the collection. Blankenship, concerned with issues of exhibition and preservation, focuses on collecting the forgotten, overlooked, marginalized, underrepresented, and barely released, with an emphasis on cult films from the drive-in, grindhouse, and video cassette eras. The Phil Blankenship Collection at the Academy Film Archive includes titles such as “The Slumber Party Massacre” (1982), “Liquid Sky” (1983), “Ninja III: The Domination” (1984), “The Care Bears Movie” (1985), and “Out for Justice" (1991).
