AFA Collection - Illusion Arts Collection

Illusion Arts was a visual effects company that existed from 1984 to 2009, founded by cinematographer Bill Taylor and matte painter Syd Dutton. The collection first came to the Academy Film Archive in 2000, and is comprised of over 3,500 items including elements from virtually every effects shot created at IA. There are also elements for effects shots that date back further, to Taylor and Dutton’s time working with Albert Whitlock at Universal Matte Department. This collection is composed primarily of 35mm film, and includes video elements.
