Carmen D’Avino was an accomplished and influential avant-garde animator, artist, and filmmaker between the 1950s and the 1970s. Since 2006, the Archive has held the Carmen D’Avino Collection, which is comprised of over 100 items from the filmmaker’s collection, including many of original pre-print elements and prints for over a dozen of his films. The Archive has preserved four of D’Avino’s films, including his Academy Award® nominated films, “Background” (1973) and “Pianissimo” (1963).
