The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA LA) was founded in 1987, the aim to support, develop, and promote Los Angeles—based multimedia artists and filmmakers who have made significant contributions to their respective industries in the United Kingdom. The BAFTA LA Heritage Archive Collection contains interviews focused on individual lives and career histories—including interviews with Helen Mirren, Michael Caine, Anne Coates, Ben Kingsley, and Ian McKellen. The project began recording in 1998 and continues to add new interviews each year. Interviews are generally between one and two hours long and often take place in the interviewees’ homes. The interviews contain a mix of edited and unedited material on multiple media formats, including DVCAM, Betacam SP, DigiBeta, VHS, and MiniDv. The collection first arrived at the Archive in 2017 and is comprised of over 100 interviews BAFTA LA has recorded of individuals who have made a substantial contribution to British film and television.
