Since 2012 the Academy Visual History Program has been recording oral histories on HD born-digital video, seeking to document diverse representatives from a wide variety of film professions. Some of the collection’s interviewees include: Emmanuelle Riva, Dennis Muren, Albert Maysles, Gena Rowlands, Sharmila Tagore, Luis Valdez, Thelma Schoonmaker, Abderrahmane Sissako, Wim Wenders, Charles Burnett, Ralph Sargent, Juliet Taylor, Bertha Navarro, Luis Ospina and Tatsuya Nakadai. To date, the program has conducted more than 140 interviews, features 7 languages, and shoots an average of 30 per year in Southern California, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York Tri-State Area. The program also conducts interviews in Europe, Latin America, South America and Japan. Interviews generally range from two to six hours in length. The collection includes video, photos, and transcripts. Transcripts are available on request. This collection is part of the Oral History Projects.
