Oscar® Scores: Atonement (15) + ScreenTalk with Dario Marianelli

The sixth in our series, curated by Academy Award nominee Gary Yershon, in which composers recall the creation of an Oscar-nominated score.

Academy Award-winner Dario Marianelli is an accomplished composer, having written the scores to Anna Karenina, V for Vendetta and Pride and Prejudice. We’re thrilled to have had him come along to talk about his Oscar-winning score for Atonement, alongside his other achievements in composition.

Adapted from Ian McEwan’s best-selling novel, this sweeping drama follows the lives of two young lovers, played by Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, whose relationship is torn apart by a lie constructed by the former’s sister (played by a young Saoirse Ronan). Set against the backdrop of World War II, the callous lie continues to change the lives of those involved forever.
