The Academy Museum will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.
The Saban Building will feature six stories of dynamic spaces, including more than 50,000 square feet of exhibition galleries, a state-of-the-art education studio, the 288-seat Ted Mann Theater, a restaurant and café, a store, and dynamic public and special event spaces.

A soaring spherical addition, including the 1,000-seat state-of-the-art David Geffen Theater, will host a range of performances, screenings, premieres, and events with the world’s leading filmmakers. Located atop the glass-covered sphere, The Dolby Family Terrace offers sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills.
Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano’s design for the Museum has been inspired by the mission of the Museum itself—to turn the dream factory inside out and give visitors an unprecedented opportunity to peer behind the screen and into the creative, collaborative world of moviemaking.
The Academy Museum will draw from the unparalleled collection of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which includes more than 12 million photographs, 190,000 film and video assets, 80,000 screenplays, 61,000 posters, 20,000 production and costume design drawings, and 104,000 pieces of production art.
The Academy Museum has actively been acquiring three-dimensional motion picture objects since 2008. Its holdings now number approximately 2,500 items representing motion picture technology, costume design, production design, makeup, and hairstyling.
