The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and
Technical Achievement Awards were presented on Saturday evening,
February 27, 1999, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
This year's Sci-Tech Awards Dinner was hosted by Anne Heche, who
presented an Oscar statuette to Avid for the concept, system design
and engineering of the Avid Film Composer along with 34 other awards.
A total of eighty-four individuals received Scientific and Technical
Achievement Awards. Click for complete list.
Scientific and Technical Awards are given for devices, methods,
formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value
to the arts and sciences of motion pictures and that also have a
proven history of use in the motion picture industry.
Portions of this year's Scientific and Technical Awards were taped
for inclusion in the March 21 Academy Awards®
broadcast. Heche also appeared on the Oscar telecast to introduce
the segment.
