Q. Congratulations, Mark Williamson. Just a follow up to my previous INCEPTION other question over here. So what is it like when the texture, the sound textures are supposed to be the world of dreams and not of life; how does that affect the way the soundscape plays into the film to the audience?
A. Well, that's a subjective interpretation obviously and we did our best to you know, we felt like what worked for us would work for an audience so we tried different interpretations of those dream levels and what the sounds would be like and what the what the merging from one level to another would be like and, you know, all you have to go by is your own, you know, your own reaction to it and if we reacted favorably, that is myself and then Chris Nolan, then we felt like it would probably work for an audience.

Q. I spoke to the nominated designer of your film and he said Leonardo DiCaprio is so fascinated by filmmaking that he was kind of curious and poking his curiosity into every aspect of the film. Did he deal with you at all in that way?
A. No. No. We he we never saw him actually. I met him on a film that he produced, a documentary about global warming, and he was very involved in that, but I think Chris Nolan is such a he is such a he's a he's what's the word? He's a director who's really an auteur, he's a director who really creates the film; he's the author of the film. So you know, I'm sure that DiCaprio recognized that and just put it in Chris' hands.

Q. You know, we hear year upon year of the pressure to get these below the line awards off of the tech cast and say that people aren't interested, but INCEPTION is winning a bunch of below the line awards and it's wildly successful. I'm wondering if you can talk a little bit about your work and the work of the other below the line artists means to audiences.
A. Well, these are not technical categories, they're artistic categories, every one of them. You know, I barely know how to boot a computer up without assistance, so I'm telling you that it's we're hired for the quality of our ideas. Every category, and not our ability to operate a piece of machinery, so it's it's about coming up with the ideas that will contribute to what Chris Nolan wants to put on the screen and create as the film and, you know, we then scurry around trying to figure out technically how to accommodate those creative challenges, but it's it's art direction, visual effects, sound, are absolutely creative categories, not technical categories.

Q. Thank you so much. Congratulations.
A. Thank you.
