Academy's Tech Council Selects 2011 Interns

Beverly Hills, CA (August 5, 2011) – The Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected five students to participate in a summer internship program designed to provide real-world experience to students interested in careers in motion picture computer graphics, archiving, sound, research and technology.

Now in its fifth year, the program provides 10-to-12 week internships that give students hands-on experience with advanced motion picture technologies. The Science and Technology Council, Pixar Animation Studios, Industrial Light & Magic, and Rhythm & Hues Studios are each hosting interns, and the Council is providing a stipend to each student.

The 2011 Science and Technology Council summer interns and their internship hosts are:

  • Yunfei Bai, Georgia Institute of Technology – Rhythm & Hues Studios
  • Yunfeng Bai, Cornell University – Industrial Light & Magic
  • Yeon Jin Lee, University of California, Berkeley – Pixar Animation Studios
  • Alex Pagliaro, Rochester Institute of Technology – Science and Technology Council
  • Xinxin Zhang, New York University – Pixar Animation Studios

"The mentor-guided programs provide science and engineering experiences that will power enduring innovation and cultivate a profound appreciation of the cinematic art form."

Established in 2003 by the Academy's Board of Governors, the Science and Technology Council provides a forum for the exchange of information, promotes cooperation among diverse technological interests within the industry, sponsors publications, fosters educational activities and preserves the history of science and technology of motion pictures.
