“Leave Her to Heaven” to
Unspool in Lush Technicolor in NYC

New York, NY – The 1945 noir tale of the beautiful, intelligent Ellen Berent will unfold in Technicolor at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “Monday Nights with Oscar®” screening of “Leave Her to Heaven” on Monday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy Theater in New York City.  The event, hosted by historian, television host and Hollywood Reporter columnist Robert Osborne, will feature a post-screening discussion with actor Darryl Hickman.

Gene Tierney stars as Ellen, who on a train trip meets the handsome novelist Richard Harland.  They fall in love and are quickly married.  All seems idyllic until Ellen gradually reveals herself as a character who is dark even by film noir standards.

John M. Stahl directs Tierney in the only Oscar-nominated performance of her career.  Cornel Wilde stars opposite Tierney as Richard, with Mary Philips as Mrs. Berent and Vincent Price as Russell Quinton, Ellen’s ex-fiance.

The classic tale of obsessive love is also an unusual representative of film noir – it takes place not in the city but in the pastoral wilderness of Maine and New Mexico, and it is filmed not in black-and-white, but in Technicolor.  Leon Shamroy received an Academy Award® for his cinematography.

“Leave Her to Heaven” was recently restored by Twentieth Century Fox and the Academy Film Archive, with funding from the Film Foundation.

“Monday Nights with Oscar” is a monthly series showcasing high-quality prints of films that have been nominated for or won Academy Awards®.

Tickets for “Leave Her to Heaven” are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID.  Tickets may be reserved by calling 1-888-778-7575.  Depending on availability, tickets may be purchased in person on the night of the screening.  Doors open at 7 p.m.  All seating is unreserved.

The Academy Theater is located at 111 East 59th Street in New York City.
