Academy Makeup Branch
Elects Governor
Beverly Hills, CA – The recently created Makeup Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has elected Leonard Engelman as its governor. His term begins immediately.
The roughly 120 makeup artist and hairstylist members of the Academy were given branch status by the Academy’s Board of Governors in October. They were previously included among members-at-large, a membership group that is represented by the Board as a whole. With the addition of Engelman, the size of the Board is increased to 43.
Engelman’s credits include “Moonstruck,” “The Accidental Tourist,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
The single-governor branch is unique, but the representation of a craft area on the Academy’s Board by a single governor is relatively common. Costume designers, production designers, set decorators, sound editors, sound mixers and live action short film makers all have a single representative on the Board.
