"Oscar’s Docs" to Present Panel Discussion
Focusing on the Nature Documentary
Beverly Hills, CA — For the next installment of its series "Oscar’s Docs: The First Twenty Years of Academy Award®-Winning Documentaries,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host a panel discussion featuring nature documentarians on Monday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m., in the Linwood Dunn Theater. The 12-week series showcases the first 40 short and feature-length documentaries honored by the Academy since the inception of the category in 1941.
Paul Kenworthy, Roy Disney and Alec Lorimore will participate in the panel. Kenworthy and Disney were cinematographer and assistant editor, respectively, on “The Living Desert” (1953) and “The Vanishing Prairie” (1954), both of which will be screened as part of the November 14 installment of “Oscar’s Docs.” Lorimore is a two-time nominee for Documentary Short Subject for “The Living Sea” (1995) and “Dolphins” (2000).
Also participating in the panel is film historian and documentary cameraman Robert Dickson, who will present a historical overview of nature film documentaries from 1898 to 1948 as an introduction to the evening.
Passes for the seven remaining dates, including October 17, of "Oscar’s Docs: The First Twenty Years of Academy Award-Winning Documentaries" are available at a cost of $30 for the general public and $25 for Academy members and students with valid I.D.
