Academy/UCLA Contemporary Documentary
Series Continues with Oscar Nominee

Beverly Hills, CA — “The Story of the Weeping Camel,” nominated in the feature documentary category for the 77th Academy Awards, and “What Remains of Us” will be screened for the October 26 installment of the Contemporary Documentary Series at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Linwood Dunn Theater, at 7:30 p.m. The series is presented annually by the Academy, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive. Screenings are free and open to the public.

Directed by Byambasuren Davaa and Luigo Falorni, “The Story of the Weeping Camel” captures an all-but-vanished way of life on the Mongolian steppes among nomadic camel herders. Tradition, myths and family unity are essential elements of daily life depicted in the film, which was produced by Natalie Lambsdorff.

In “What Remains of Us,” a Tibetan refugee defies the Chinese authorities by carrying a video message from the Dalai Lama to show secretly to fellow Tibetans, who have been denied direct access to their spiritual and political leader for over 50 years. The film was directed by François Prévost and Hugo Latulippe and produced by Prévost and Yves Bisaillon.

The Linwood Dunn Theater is located at the Academy’s Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study, 1313 North Vine Street, in Hollywood, at the northwest corner of Fountain Avenue and Vine Street. Limited parking is available behind the building through the entrance on Homewood Avenue, one block north of Fountain. For more information, call 310-247-3600 or 310-206-FILM.
