Eric Armstrong to ETSU as Academy Visiting Artist

Beverly Hills, CA — Oscar®-winning animator Eric Armstrong will visit East Tennessee State University (ETSU) today, Thursday, September 22, and Friday, September 23, to meet with students and participate in numerous lectures on digital media as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Visiting Artists Program.

ETSU students will have the opportunity to meet Armstrong at various digital media courses and have their work reviewed by the animator. Armstrong, winner of the 2002 Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for "The ChubbChubbs!," also will participate in a Thursday evening presentation and will lead a Friday morning seminar on directing animated features.

"As a student, I had the privilege of attending presentations by animation giants like Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. I hope I can have even half the impact on the students that those legends had on me," said Armstrong, a member of the Academy's short films and feature animation branch.

Armstrong began his career in television in the late 1980s working on such series as "Ewoks" and "Care Bears." He transitioned into feature films as animation director with Sony Pictures' Imageworks where he worked on numerous films including " Jurassic Park," "Stuart Little" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

The Academy's Visiting Artists Program was established in 1970 to provide a link between the academic study of film and filmmaking and the industry's leading professionals. Through grants made available to institutions, Academy members share their expertise in classrooms, festivals, conferences and other film-related events throughout the U.S. and internationally.

For more information on the Visiting Artists Program, contact the Academy's Educational Programs and Special Events department at 310-274-3000 ext. 111 or visit http://www.oscars.org/foundation/visitingartists.html.
