“Great To Be Nominated” Enjoys a “Roman Holiday”

	"Roman Holiday" stars Gregory Peck alongside Academy Award®-winner Audrey Hepburn, in her Hollywood film debut.

Beverly Hills, CA — The 1953 Best Picture nominee “Roman Holiday” will be screened as the next installment in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' series "Great To Be Nominated, Part Two” on Monday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

In her Academy Award®-winning performance, Audrey Hepburn stars in “Roman Holiday” as Princess Anne, a young royal tired of the responsibility that comes with the title. When she runs away, Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck), a reporter hungry for a scoop, befriends her and together they see the sights of Rome. In addition to Hepburn’s Best Actress win, the film also earned Oscars® for Costume Design – Black-and-White (Edith Head) and Writing – Motion Picture Story (Dalton Trumbo*), and was nominated in seven other categories including Best Picture, Actor in a Supporting Role (Eddie Albert), Art Direction –
Black- and-White (Hal Pereira, Walter Tyler), Cinematography – Black-and-White (Frank Planer, Henri Alekan), Directing (William Wyler), Film Editing (Robert Swink) and Writing – Screenplay (Ian McLellan Hunter, John Dighton).

The 1953 Oscar-nominated cartoon short subject "The Tell Tale Heart” and live-action short subject nominee “Return to Glennascaul,” starring Orson Welles, will be screened prior to the film.

The evening's commemorative program will feature black-and-white photos from "Roman Holiday" on the cover.

Tickets for the screening may be purchased for $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid identification. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, pending availability, the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. but the pre-show elements will begin at 7 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. * EDITOR’S NOTE: The screen credit and award for Writing – Motion Picture Story were originally credited to Ian McLellan Hunter, who was a ‘front’ for Dalton Trumbo. On December 15, 1992, the Academy’s Board of Governors voted to change the records and credit Mr. Trumbo with the achievement, as well as the award. Ian McLellan Hunter’s name was removed from the Motion Picture Story category. The Oscar was presented to Trumbo’s widow on May 10, 1993.
