April 25, 2005 "Great To Be Nominated" Film Series to Feature "The Song of Bernadette"
Beverly Hills, CA — "The Song of Bernadette," the 1943 Best Picture nominee starring Jennifer Jones in the title role, will screen at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the organization's "Great To Be Nominated" series continues. The film received 12 Academy Award® nominations and won four Oscars®, including one for Jones' leading performance as Bernadette Soubirous, the young peasant girl who has a vision of a woman that she believes to be the Virgin Mary. The 1943 Oscar-nominated Cartoon Short Subject "Reason and Emotion" will be shown prior to the film, as will the One-Reel Short Subject nominee "Seeing Hands." The 1943 Two-Reel Short Subject Oscar winner, "Heavenly Music," also will be featured during the program. The evening's commemorative program will feature black and white photos from "The Song of Bernadette" on the cover. Tickets for each screening may be purchased on an individual basis at a cost of $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid identification. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, pending availability, the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Curtain time for all screenings is 7:30 p.m. but the pre-show elements will begin at 7 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
