New Photography Exhibition to Open in Academy Gallery

" Untitled " by Bob Marshak - 2002
Something's Gotta Give (2003)

Beverly Hills , CA - The artistry of motion picture still photographers will be on display when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' new exhibition opens to the public on January 7. "Take 2: Recent Images from the Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers" will feature more than 60 images taken by 25 of the Society's members. Like all exhibitions at the Academy, "Take 2" is free and open to the public.

The photographers whose works are featured were all invited to join the Society based upon their experience and talent. "Take 2" allows these artists, generally hired by film studios to provide stills for publicity purposes, to showcase another side of their work. Behind-the-scenes shots and candid moment images, which don't normally find their way into a press kit, make up the bulk of the installation. Most of the images were taken during the last five years.

Exhibiting photographers are: Claudette Barius, Ron Batzdorff, Phil Bray, Andrew Cooper, Francois Duhamel, Anthony Freidkin, Nicola Goode, Melinda Sue Gordon, Brian Hamill, Suzanne Hanover, Kerry Hayes, Douglas Kirkland, Rolf Konow, Gemma La Mana, Bob Marshak, Frank Masi, Merrick Morton, Melissa Moseley, Andrew D. Schwartz, Peter Sorel, David Strick, Suzanne Tenner, Stephen Vaughan, Merie Weismiller Wallace and Bob Willoughby.

This is the second time the Academy has presented the work of Society photographers. The popular "Between Takes" installation was featured in the Academy Galleries in the Spring of 2000.

"Take 2" will continue through April 17. Viewing hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends, noon to 6 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills . For more information, call 310-247-3600.
