November 1, 2004 Academy's Stevens Retrospective to Feature "A Place in the Sun"
Beverly Hills , CA - The 1951 Academy Award®-winning drama " A Place in the Sun," which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift and was directed by George Stevens, will rise again on the silver screen on Monday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater. " A Place in the Sun," which won six Oscars® out of nine nominations, will be presented as part of a centennial tribute celebrating the life and career of the film's Oscar®-winning director. Footage from "George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey," featuring interviewswith Elizabeth Taylor and Shelley Winters discussing Stevens and their roles in " A Place in the Sun," will be shown prior to the film. The original trailer for "Shane," the next film in the screening series, also will be featured as part of the evening's program. Tickets for each screening may be purchased on an individual basis at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid identification. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, pending availability, the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills .
