The More the Merrier (1943) |
Beverly Hills, CA — As part of the centennial tribute honoring the late Oscar®-winning director George Stevens, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a double feature of Stevens-related films on Monday, October 25.
A new digital version of the 1943 Stevens-directed comedy "The More the Merrier" will screen at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater, followed by the 1985 documentary "George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey," which was directed by George Stevens Jr. and will also be seen in a new digital presentation. The documentary includes interviews with such Hollywood legends as Katharine Hepburn, Rock Hudson, Jimmy Stewart, Ginger Rogers and Douglas Fairbanks Jr., who talk candidly about their experiences working with Stevens.
Behind-the-scenes footage on the set of "The More the Merrier," featuring the film's stars Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea and Charles Coburn, will screen prior to the feature presentation, as will the 1929 Laurel and Hardy comedy short "Liberty," on which Stevens served as the cinematographer. The original trailer for "I Remember Mama," the next film in the screening series, also will be shown during the evening.
Tickets for each screening may be purchased on an individual basis at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid identification. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, pending availability, the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. For more information, call 310-247-3000, ext. 111.
