October 4, 2004 Academy's George Stevens Retrospective to Feature "Swing Time" & "Vivacious Lady"
Beverly Hills, CA — The Oscar®-nominated comedies "Swing Time" (1936) and "Vivacious Lady" (1938), both directed by George Stevens and starring Ginger Rogers, will screen on Monday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the centennial tribute to the late Oscar-winning director continues. Excerpts from footage originally shot for the documentary "George Stevens: A Filmmaker’s Journey," which was directed by George Stevens Jr., will be shown prior to the films. The never-before-seen footage includes interviews with Ginger Rogers and James Stewart, who co-starred in "Vivacious Lady," and Hermes Pan, who received an Academy Award® nomination for Dance Direction in "Swing Time." A four-color reproduction of the original poster art for each film will be featured on the evening's programs. Passes for the George Stevens Centennial Retrospective are available at a cost of $25 for those wishing to see the film series in its entirety. Tickets for each screening may be purchased on an individual basis at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid identification. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, pending availability, the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
