August 19, 2004 Academy Announces Staff Changes and AdditionsBeverly Hills, CA — Executive Director Bruce Davis announced today that Thomas Thanangadan and Howard Loberfeld have joined the staff of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as Membership Administrator and Credits Coordinator, respectively. The latter position was previously held by Torene Svitil, who has been promoted into the Academy’s Awards Coordinator position. Thanangadan will oversee all aspects of the prospective member review process, as well as supervising the invitation and ticketing processes for the Awards presentation. Most recently Thanangadan was a creative affairs executive for UFA International. Svitil joined the Academy staff in 1999. In her new role as Awards Coordinator, she will oversee the submission and voting processes for several awards categories, including documentary films, short films, animated features and foreign language films. The position was previously held by Patrick Stockstill, who is remaining with the Academy but focusing solely on his other role as the organization’s historian and statistician. Loberfeld will be responsible for the gathering, editing and maintaining of film credits to be used for determining eligibility for Academy Awards consideration and for integration into the Academy’s credits database. The position involves extensive research, proofreading and fact checking. Loberfeld was most recently an entertainment journalist; prior to that he spent 18 years with Nielsen EDI in various capacities. The Academy’s staff now numbers over 200, with employees serving in the organization’s three facilities, the Beverly Hills headquarters on Wilshire Boulevard, the Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study on La Cienega Boulevard and the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study on Vine Street in Hollywood.
