Pierson Re-Elected to Academy Presidency

Beverly Hills, CA — Academy Award®-winning writer Frank Pierson, has been re-elected to his fourth term as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization's Board of Governors. According to Academy by-laws, the 2004-05 term will be the last consecutive term he can serve in the office.

Four other incumbent officers were returned to their posts as well. The election was held at the regularly-scheduled August meeting of the board Tuesday night (8/10).

Pierson, a governor representing the writers branch of the Academy for the past six years, was first elected to the Academy presidency in 2001.

Sid Ganis, a public relations branch governor, was re-elected first vice president. Directors branch governor Gil Cates was re-elected vice president, with music branch governor Arthur Hamilton being elected to the other vice president post. Actors branch governor Kathy Bates was named treasurer again and sound branch governor Donald C. Rogers was re-elected secretary.

Ganis has previously served five terms as first vice president and three as vice president. Hamilton has previously served four terms as vice president and two as treasurer. Rogers has previously served three terms as vice president, one term as treasurer and a total of ten terms as secretary. Bates has served three terms as vice president and a term as secretary in addition to her year as treasurer. Cates will serve for the second time as a vice president of the Academy.

Academy officers serve one-year terms, with a maximum of four consecutive terms in any one office.
