Academy's "Monday Nights with Oscar® "Screening Series Feels "The Big Chill"

The 1983 Academy Award®-nominated film "The Big Chill" starred William Hurt (seated left), Meg Tilley (seated), Jobeth Williams (back left), Jeff Goldblum, Tom Berenger and Kevin Kline as a group of thirty-somethings reunited to attend a former classmates funeral.

New York, Ny - "The Big Chill" comes over New York on Monday, December 15, when the 1983 Best Picture nominee screens at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in Manhattan.

Glenn Close, who earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting performance as Sarah in "The Big Chill," is scheduled to attend the screening.

In honor of the film's 20th anniversary, "The Big Chill" will be presented as the next entry in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' monthly screening series "Monday Nights with Oscar."

Dave Karger, senior writer for Entertainment Weekly, will serve as the evening's host.

In addition to Close, "The Big Chill" starred Tom Berenger, JoBeth Williams, William Hurt, Mary Kay Place, Jeff Goldblum and Kevin Kline as a group of thirty-somethings reunited to attend a former classmates funeral. Kevin Costner played the deceased classmate who appears only from the neck down under the main titles.

The film also received an Academy Award® nomination for Writing (Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen - Lawrence Kasdan and Barbara Benedek). Michael Shamberg produced the film and Kasdan directed it.

This print of "The Big Chill," which recently was restored by Sony Pictures Entertainment, screened in October at the Academy's headquarters in Beverly Hills.

The next offering in the "Monday Nights with Oscar" series will be a double feature showing "Primary," the 1960 documentary about President John F. Kennedy which has been preserved by the Academy Film Archive, and the 1949 Best Picture winner "All the King's Men." This program will take place on January 12.

Tickets for the screening are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be reserved over the phone by calling 888-778-7575. All orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
