November 10, 2003 Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "American Beauty"
Beverly Hills, CA - "American Beauty," the Oscar®-winning film that portrayed the imperfect life of a suburban family, will screen on Monday, November 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater. "American Beauty" is the next film to be featured in the Academy's 75th anniversary series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners." Prior to the screening, moviegoers will have the opportunity to purchase a 76th Academy Awards® commemorative poster. Pop artist Burton Morris, who created the poster's design, will be on hand from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. to sign copies of the poster. Footage of the 72nd Academy Awards telecast also will be featured during the evening, as will the Oscar-winning Animated Short Film of 1999, "The Old Man and the Sea." The original trailer for "Gladiator," the next film in the screening series also will be shown. The Best Song of 1999, "You'll Be in My Heart" from the film "Tarzan," will provide the program's curtain music. Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
