October 29, 2003 Academy's "Monday Nights with Oscar®" Screening Series Presents "Roman Holiday"
Beverly Hills, CA - The 1953 Academy Award®-winning film "Roman Holiday" takes a trip to New York on Monday, November 17. A newly restored print of the film will screen at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in Manhattan. "Roman Holiday" is the next film to be featured in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' monthly screening series "Monday Nights with Oscar." Joel Siegel, film critic and entertainment editor of ABC's "Good Morning America," will serve as the evening's host. "Roman Holiday" starred Audrey Hepburn as a young European princess who escapes her formal duties for one day and is befriended by a handsome newspaper reporter played by Gregory Peck. Shot on location in Rome, the film made Hepburn an American screen star and her performance as Princess Anne earned her the Oscar for Best Actress of 1953. The film also won Academy Awards for Costume Design (Black-and-White) and Writing (Motion Picture Story). Additional nominations included Actor in a Supporting Role, Art Direction (Black-and-White), Cinematography (Black-and-White), Directing, Film Editing and Best Picture. The restoration of "Roman Holiday" was completed by Paramount Pictures, utilizing elements from the Academy Film Archive. This print screened at Academy headquarters in Beverly Hills this past September. The screening also will honor the memory of Oscar-winning actor Gregory Peck, who was a member of the Academy's Board of Governors for 22 years and served as Academy President from 1967 to 1970. The next offering in the series will be a 20th anniversary screening of "The Big Chill" on December 15. Tickets for the screening are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be reserved over the phone by calling 888-778-7575. All orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Pending availability, tickets may be purchased in person the night of the screening when the doors open at 7:00 p.m. The Academy Theater at Lighthouse International is located at 111 East 59th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues.
