October 28, 2003 Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Titanic"
Beverly Hills, CA - "Titanic," the 70th film to win the Oscar® for Best Picture, docks in Beverly Hills on Monday, November 3. The fictional romantic story that takes place on the ill-fated inaugural voyage of the ship will screen in 70mm at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the next entry in the 75th anniversary series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners." "Titanic" received 14 Academy Award® nominations, tying the 1950 film "All about Eve" for the most nominations garnered by a single film. "Titanic" accomplished another feat when it won 11 statuettes, tying the record for most honored film in Academy history set in 1959 by "Ben-Hur." Preceding the screening will be footage from the 70th Anniversary Academy Awards telecast featuring "Oscar's Family Album," a live gathering of 70 previous Oscar winners for acting, both competitive and honorary - the most Academy Award-winning actors ever gathered in one place. The Oscar-winning Animated Short Subject of 1997, "Geri's Game," also will be shown during the program, as will the original trailer for "Shakespeare in Love," the next film in the screening series. "Titanic" produced the Best Song of 1997, "My Heart Will Go On," which will provide the evening's curtain music. Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
