Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Forrest Gump"

Tom Hanks starred as the title character in the 1994 Academy Award®-winning drama "Forrest Gump."

Beverly Hills, CA — The marathon of Oscar®-winning Best Pictures continues on Monday, October 13, when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 75th anniversary series "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners" presents the 1994 film "Forrest Gump" in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Preceding the screening will be footage from the 67th Academy Awards® telecast, featuring Tom Hanks winning his second Best Actor Oscar in a row. Hanks joined an exclusive club that year, as only four other performers have accomplished consecutive wins: Luise Rainer in 1936 and 1937; Spencer Tracy in 1937 and 1938; Katharine Hepburn in 1967 and 1968 and Jason Robards (in supporting roles) in 1976 and 1977.

The Oscar-winning Animated Short Film of 1994, "Bob's Birthday," also will be featured during the program, as will the original trailer for the next film in the series, "Braveheart." The evening's curtain music will be the Best Song of 1994, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the film "The Lion King."

Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. For more information, call 310-247-3000, ext. 111.
