Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Schindler's List"

 

The 1993 Academy Award®-winning drama "Schindler's List" was nominated for twelve Oscars® and won seven, including Best Picture of the year.

Beverly Hills, CA - The powerful drama "Schindler's List," which recounted the true story of how German businessman Oskar Schindler saved 1,300 Jews from the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland, won the Oscar® for Best Picture of 1993. Due to Yom Kippur, which falls on a Monday, the film will screen on Tuesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the 75th anniversary series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners," continues.

Preceding the screening will be footage from the 66th Academy Awards® telecast, featuring the presentation of an Honorary Oscar to retired actress Deborah Kerr who had been nominated in the Best Actress category six times during her career but never won the statuette.

The Oscar-winning Animated Short Film of 1993, "The Wrong Trousers," also will be featured during the evening, as will the original trailer for the next film in the series, "Forrest Gump." The program's curtain music will be the Best Song of 1993, "Streets of Philadelphia" from the film "Philadelphia."

Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
