Beverly Hills, CA - Beth Harris, a veteran retail shopping center marketing executive, has been hired for the newly-created position of director of marketing at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Harris has spent the past ten years as marketing chief for five California shopping centers. She has most recently served simultaneously as director of marketing for The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center in Los Angeles and Grossmont Center in San Diego, both managed by CB Richard Ellis-Asset Management.

Prior to that she was Senior Director of Marketing for Hollywood & Highland, where she spent four years overseeing the pre-opening marketing plan and the launch campaign for the center, the home of the Academy's annual awards presentation.

In the new position, Harris will report to Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis and Executive Administrator Ric Robertson and will devise and execute strategies to maintain and build the national television audience for the Oscar ceremony.

In the full-time, year-round post, Harris will work exclusively on the Awards telecast, developing and executing programs and activities that take advantage of all available promotional and marketing channels. She will work closely with show sponsors to develop ideas that will leverage their sponsorships into other promotional avenues.

Academy Director of Communications John Pavlik will continue in charge of publicity, press and public relations and internal and external corporate communications.

A graduate of Texas Tech University, Harris also has served as director of marketing from 1989 through 1996 for North County Fair in San Diego and La Cumbre Plaza in Santa Barbara.
