Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Platoon"

 

"Platoon," the Vietnam War drama that received eight Academy Award® nominations, won four Oscars®, including Best Picture of 1986.

Beverly Hills, CA - The Oscar®-winning film "Platoon" marches to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday, August 18, when it screens at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the Academy's 75th anniversary series, "Facets of the Diamond," continues.

Preceding the screening will be footage from the 59th Academy Awards® telecast, featuring the last Oscar appearance of actress Bette Davis, who was on hand to present the award for Best Actor.

The program also will include the Oscar-winning Animated Short Film of 1986, "A Greek Tragedy," and the original trailer for "The Last Emperor," the next film in the screening series. The Best Song of 1986, "Take My Breath Away" from the film "Top Gun," will serve as the evening's curtain music.

Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
