November 11, 2002 Academys Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Around the World in 80 Days"
Beverly Hills, CA - "Around the World in 80 Days" made a trip to the Oscar® podium in 1956 to accept the Academy Award® for Best Picture. Beverly Hills is the film's destination on Monday, November 18, when it screens at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater, as the 28th entry in the organization's 75th anniversary "Facets of the Diamond" series. Footage from the 29th Academy Awards® telecast will be shown prior to the screening as will a new Cinemascope print of "Mister Magoo's Puddle Jumper," which won the Oscar for Cartoon Short Subject of 1956. A trailer for "The Bridge on the River Kwai," the next film in the 75th anniversary screening series, also will be featured during the program. The Best Song of 1956, "Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)" from the film "The Man Who Knew Too Much," will provide the evening's curtain music. Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
