Actor. The film received eight Academy Award® nominations
and also won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Beverly Hills, CA - The 1955 film "Marty" made Academy Awards®
history when it became the first, and to date only, film based on a
television drama to win the Academy Award®
for Best Picture. "Marty" will screen on Monday, November
11, at 7: 30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences'
Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
For the second year in a row, the Academy Awards nominations announcement
was telecast live from various locations throughout Los Angeles. Footage
from this show, which featured host Fredric March and presenters Deborah
Kerr, Tony Curtis and Eddie Fisher, will precede the screening.
The Oscar®-winning Cartoon Short
Subject of 1955, "Speedy Gonzales," will be shown as will
the trailer for "Around the World in Eighty Days," the next
film in the 75th anniversary screening series. "Love is a Many-Splendored
Thing," the Best Song of 1955 from the film of the same name, will
serve as the evening's curtain music.
Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each
for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with
a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during
regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire
