David Lean's "Ryan's Daughter" to be Featured
at Academy
Beverly Hills, CA - A new 70 mm print of "Ryan's Daughter,"
the 1970 epic love story directed by David Lean, will be screened by the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday, November 15, at
8 p.m., in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The film is presented
as part of the Academy Standards Series, which features high-quality prints
of Academy Award®-winning and nominated
films.
"Ryan's Daughter" stars Robert Mitchum as schoolmaster Charles
Shaughnessy; Sarah Miles, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her
portrayal of his wife Rosy; Christopher Jones as the British soldier Randolph
Doryan with whom Rosy has an affair; and John Mills, who won an Academy
Award for his wordless supporting role as Michael. Trevor Howard, Leo
McKern, Barry Foster, Marie Kean, Arthur O'Sullivan and Evin Crowley also
star.
Produced by Anthony Havelock-Allan, the original screenplay for "Ryan's
Daughter" was written by Robert Bolt. Cinematographer Freddie Young
took home an Oscar® statuette for
his work, and the film also earned a nomination in the Sound category
for Gordon K. McCallum and John Bramall. The print being screened is courtesy
of Warner Bros./Turner Entertainment.
Tickets for "Ryan's Daughter" are $5 for the general public
and $3 for Academy members. They may be purchased in advance by mail or
in person at the Academy during regular business hours. Academy member
tickets are available now; the public may purchase tickets beginning November
1. They may also be obtained on the night of the screening, if still available,
