October 14, 2002 Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "The Greatest Show on Earth"
Beverly Hills, CA - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will send in the clowns when "The Greatest Show on Earth" screens on Monday, October 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The Oscar®-winning Best Picture of 1952 was the first film to be awarded this honor on live television as the 25th Academy Awards® presentation was the first ceremony to be telecast. Footage from this historic ceremony will precede the screening of "The Greatest Show on Earth," as will "Johann Mouse," which won the Oscar for Cartoon Short Subject of 1952. The trailer for the next film in the 75th anniversary screening series, "From Here to Eternity," also will be shown. The Best Song of 1952, "High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darlin')" as performed by Tex Ritter in the film "High Noon," will serve as the evening's curtain music. Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D.
