Academy/UCLA Documentary Series Returns for 21st Year

Beverly Hills, CA - Part One of the 21st annual Contemporary Documentary Series, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive, will kick off on October 1, at 7:30 p.m., at UCLA's James Bridges Theater. All screenings in the series are free and open to the public.
Following is the complete schedule:

Tuesday, October 1
"Rocky and Rolanda" (produced by Rob King, directed by Chuck Braverman).
"Children Underground" (produced and directed by Edet Belzberg).

Tuesday, October 15
"Satsun: My Apprenticeship with a Mayan Healer" (produced by Eva Langsdorff, directed by Guido Verwegen).
"Keep the River on Your Right: A Modern Cannibal Tale" (directed by David Shapiro, Laurie Shapiro).

Tuesday October 29
"The Execution of Wanda Jean" (produced by Rory Kennedy, directed by Liz Garbus).
"Murder on a Sunday Morning" (produced by Denis Poncet, directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade) Academy Award winner.

Tuesday, November 12
"Ram Dass" (produced and directed by Mickey Lemle).
"Southern Comfort" (produced and directed by Kate Davis).

Tuesday, November 26
"Sisters in Resistance" (produced and directed by Maria Wechsler)
"Unfinished Symphony" (produced by Bestor Cram, directed by Cram and Mike Majoros).

Tuesday, December 3
"Love Josh" (produced by Susan Hannah Hadary and William A. Whitford, directed by Whitford).
"My Khmer Heart" (produced by Leonie Lowe, directed by Janine Hosking).

"Tuesday December 10
The Turandot Project" (produced by Margaret Smilow, directed by Allan Miller).
"The Magic of Federico Fellini" (produced and directed by Carmen Piccini)

Tuesday December 17 - special screening at the IMAX Theater
"Amazing Journeys" (produced by Paul Novros and George Casey, directed by Casey).
"Journey into Amazing Caves" (produced by Steve Judson and Greg MacGillivray, directed by Judson).
"Oceanmen" (produced by Jan Hermann, directed by Bob Talbot).

All screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus, except for the December 17 program at the IMAX Theater, which begins at 7 p.m. Filmmakers will be present whenever possible to discuss their films and take questions from the audience. Part Two of the series will begin in January.

The James Bridges Theater is located in Westwood on the northeast corner of the UCLA campus, near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Hilgard Avenue. Parking is available for $6 in Lot 3, adjacent to the theater. The IMAX Theater is located at the California Museum of Science and Industry on Exhibition Boulevard at Figueroa Street.
