Holland's Role in WWII Explored in "Soldier of Orange" at Academy

Beverley Hills, CA - "Soldier of Orange," the story of six Dutch students whose lives are forever changed by the World War II invasion of the Netherlands by the Nazis, will be screened at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday, September 27, at 7:45 p.m. Director Paul Verhoeven will introduce the film to the audience.

"Soldier of Orange" stars Rutger Hauer, Jeroen Krabbe, Edward Fox and Susan Penhaligon. Produced by Rob Houwer, the film's screenplay, written by Gerard Soeteman, Kees Holierhoek and Paul Verhoeven, is based on the novel by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema.

The film is presented as the opening night of the festival "Heroes, Traitors and Collaborators: Films about the Netherlands under Nazi Occupation," which screens at UCLA on September 28 and 29. It is co-presented by the College of Lettters and Sciences, UCLA; Utrecht University; and the Consul General of the Netherlands.

Tickets for Soldier of Orange are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with valid identification. They may be purchased in advance by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or on the night of the screening, if still available, when the doors open at 6:45 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
