August 19, 2002 Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Going My Way"
Beverly Hills, CA - "Going My Way," the next film in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 75th Anniversary screening series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners," will be featured on Monday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. "Going My Way" was the first film to win Oscars® for both Best Picture and Best Song. This has been accomplished only twice since: in 1958 by "Gigi" and in 1997 by "Titanic." "Swinging on a Star," the Best Song of 1944, will serve as the evening's curtain music. "Mouse Trouble," the Oscar®-winning Cartoon Short Subject of 1944, will be shown during the program, as will "Movie Pests," which was nominated in that year's Live Action Short Subject category. A newsreel featuring the launching of the S.S. Carole Lombard, a naval warship named in honor of the star who died while on a war-bond-selling tour, will screen prior to the film. Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. For more information, call 310-247-3000, ext. 111. Editors: Please note that downloadable photos from this film are available at http://photos.oscars.org
